01. Rubik - Transformation

Role: 3D animation | Concept design | Look development | modelling | texturing | animation

Client: Epidemic Sound | Studio: Carveandstitch

When Epidemic Sound approached us with a brief to produce 4 dynamic 3D animations we dropped our pencils!

Immediately we started brainstorming concepts and potential designs to promote the awesome catalogue of music on Epidemic’s website.

The client requested a series of animations that showcased some form of transformations taking place.

When we received the music selects we got straight to work starting with the Rubik’s cube. The concept was born from a combination of a Midi pad and a Rubik’s cube, the Midi pad to resemble sounds being controlled whilst the dynamic movements and retro fit of a Rubik cube breathed life into this electronic theme.

This was one of the final wireframe tests used for timing the lights and movement prior to rendering.

02. Woven Nature - Transformation

Woven Nature was based on an idea involving natural elements transforming from a hard surface to a soft material.

In this version we used took the hardest surface we could think of and attempted to transform it into cloth.

Using a combination of cloth dynamics and vertex mapping the results were great especially once we introduced some turbulence and wind.

We started with some initial tests as seen below using cloth materials with some sub-surface scattering until it eventually progressed to blue cloth and eventually silk.

03. Cables- Transformation

Steel cables was a concept born from guitar strings (hence the music track used in this project).

The client requested to use some form of liquid transformation so we played with the idea that the cables could morph or explode into a liquid form..

We decided to use the rope dynamic system in Cinema4d to breathe life into the cables creating waves by wrapping them together to create a tension.

The tension eventually gives way bringing the transformation into play which then reveals the final logo.
